Every time I visit with our little grandchildren, I consider the “childlike faith” that Jesus describes. It’s a dependence for our very lives, fully trusting in someone else. Little ones don’t consider what’s coming. They simply play, learn, and grow…in the moment. They offer much wonder, curiosity, and love as they do so. They simply trust that “another” takes care of them, keeps them safe, provides all they need.
Is your suffering making you feel needy, like a child? Are you increasingly praying, “Lord, I need Thee every hour?”
Me too.
Perhaps this is God’s gift to us as we realize our own vulnerabilities, our self-sufficient places. Maybe this time of suffering is a time for Him to deepen our trust in our powerful God and compassionate Father, as His little and needy children.
Let’s humble ourselves before Him as children and offer Him a “praise interruption” as we pray for His help. Let’s read God’s Word and praise Him for His presence, power, and promises to us, into today’s continual needs. They may be “simple” truths, but as His children, we often need to remember them on the hardest days. Lord, I praise You like a child today.
Lord, I praise You for Your presence
I need thee every hour,
most gracious Lord;
no tender voice like thine
can peace afford.
(“I Need Thee Every Hour,” Lowry, R., & Hawks, A. S., 1872)
And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful (Col. 3:15 ESV).
I need thee every hour;
stay thou near by;
temptations lose their power
when thou art nigh.
Lord, I praise You for Your power
I need thee every hour,
in joy or pain;
come quickly, and abide,
or life is vain.
Walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to him;
bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God;
being strengthened with all power,
according to his glorious might,
for all endurance and patience with joy,
giving thanks to the Father,
who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in light (Col. 1:10-12 ESV).
I need thee every hour,
Most Holy One;
O make me thine indeed,
thou blessed Son.
Lord, I praise You like a child, for Your promises to those in Christ
I need thee every hour;
teach me thy will,
and thy rich promises
in me fulfill.
I need thee, O I need thee,
every hour I need thee;
O bless me now, my Savior,
I come to thee.
His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness,
through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence,
by which he has granted to us his precious and very great promises,
so that through them you may become partakers of the divine nature,
having escaped from the corruption that is in this world because of sinful desire (2 Pet. 1:3-4 ESV).
And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.
To our God and Father be glory forever and ever. Amen (Phil. 4:19-20 ESV).
Lord, I praise You like a child
When our daughters were little and I was so sick, we sang through every single day. Into every tear, into my every weak moment of dizzy and pain, we sang truths from God’s Word. Into their play, their hungry, their diaper changes, their tantrums, we sang praise to the Lord. Back then, it was mostly Wee Sing Bible songs on repeat!
The songs reflected a childlike trust for a believer in Christ. They sang of His always-with us presence, His continual power, and His many promises. We wanted our girls to know Jesus…and these songs were one “teaching” resource.
But honestly?
I recently realized those precious children’s songs were His gifts to help ME endure that years-long season of severe suffering, into my cries of “Lord, I need Thee every hour.” So I have a gift for you!
As Thanksgiving approaches, this week’s playlist is filled with children’s songs, to help us live out Colossians 1:10-12 and 3:15. They are my gifts for your children and grandchildren, but if you’re like me, they’re also for us to humble ourselves before Him by thanking Him. They help us sing with child-like trust, into our own needs.
If this would bless you and you’re not receiving my weekly playlists yet, I would love to send them to you as a gift! Sign up here and it will come to your email. I’m praying this week’s songs will edify and strengthen you as much as they’ve done for me and our own daughters!

Oh, how wonderful.
Yes, we do need to humble ourselves.
I’ve been attending 3 different online churches, praise the Lord. Each and every time, they have all been stressing that we need to humble ate selves.
Having health problems, have certainly made me step back and reexamine my life. Satan has been trying to make me stumble but I have more faith (like that of a chikd) than ever before. Jesus has given me the strength to get up and get moving. He has never left my side since I have humbled myself.
I love the fact the God is Great-always.
