God promises to give me endurance and strength! Abundant life!

Holy God and loving Father, this is one of Your most lavish promises to me as I suffer: This is Your promised abundant life, Your promised endurance and strength! When Jesus tells us He came so that we might have abundant life (Jn. 10:10),  I realize that Your promise to Read more

My richest gain, I count but loss, Lord of love

Downsizing fifteen minutes at a time this summer, going through bins and boxes of artifacts and mementos saved from childhood, I saw progressions of meaning in what I valued most.  What I “worshipped.” So many idols.  Yet I also see that God was loving me, drawing me to Himself before Read more

What’s our song? A sovereign Protector I have

I’m dancing and leaping and praising God as I humbly thank Him for His healing, compassionate mercy. Another cancer scare ended today as the incredulous doctor twinkled, “It’s gone! It was there…and it’s gone!” A few days prior, I’d felt a warm compression on that very area, like someone pushing Read more

What can we sing when we fear more suffering?

David was afraid. Of course! Running for his life, leaving his loved ones and home behind, living off the land, he hid in fear of attack and death at the hands of his enemy. For 20 years, scholars say. Vulnerable. Humbled. Lonely. Living in darkness. Dependent on God’s grace. For Read more
