Welcome! My name is Lauri, and I am the founder of the nonprofit ministry “Singing Christ’s Hope.” I’m a wife, mother of three daughters and sons-in-law, and Nana to seven beautiful grandchildren, five living on earth and two with the Lord. By God’s healing mercy, I’ve had the joy of being able to work as a music educator, church music director, music therapist, music researcher, and author.

What is “Singing Christ’s Hope” into your suffering?

The Lord made it clear to me, soon after the pandemic started, that it’s time to encourage or “courage into” you.

You see, the first chapter of the story God allowed in my life included tremendous suffering in the 90s, as our girls were babies into ages 8, 6 and 6 (yes, twins). In my case, it was with years of undiagnosed and progressively serious chronic illness and pain, with accompanying depression and anxiety. It all hurled me into the arms of Jesus through desperate lament, prayer, and deep study of God’s Word. He’s never let go.

You too? How are you suffering right now?

Sister in Christ, I’m writing to share our gospel hope in Christ, as we suffer. It’s so hard, and, some days, it feels impossible to endure.

But through the inductive study of His Word, God provided me life-changing and indescribable joy, peace, hope, and comfort as I suffer.

Singing Christ’s hope

Responding to our Father in song, especially singing Scripture itself, helped me endure the scary agony of my worst suffering in the 90s. It finally ended up with God’s providentially healing work of accurate diagnosis and surgical treatment of Chiari malformation (brainstem herniation) and dysautonomia.

Singing Christ’s Hope has helped me endure a new chapter of my recent recurrence of serious illness, with a now sagging brain. Here is the story of what God did in the valley of the shadow of death. To God be the glory, for the miracle happened before!

Singing songs reminds me of our hope in Christ, God’s gracious, powerful, and practically helpful gift, as I suffer horrific pain in the valley. Jesus has come so near to me in the singing of Scriptural songs.

When I’m in the darkness of suffering, gospel-centered songs help me do this:

“Whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things” (Philippians 4:8 ESV).

Christian music playlists for us to sing to the Lord

So I share professionally curated Christ-exalting, Scriptural, easy-to-sing YouTube playlists for you, using all I’ve learned in my music therapy, worship service planning, and music teaching work.

We at Singing Christ’s Hope pray the weekly worship devotional writings, intentionally filled with lots of “living and active” Scripture, will be God’s gift to you. We pray the accompanying playlist gifts of Psalms, old hymns, and newer spiritual songs will help you endure your suffering with a deepened faith, peace, hope, and joy. Sister in Christ, we cherish praying for you through email. Just write back for ongoing prayer!

You-Tube podcast channel

“Singing Christ’s Hope” also hosts a YouTube channel with short Scripturally-saturated readings and piano hymns, for your times of suffering. Sometimes, we can’t read or think when we’re suffering deeply. These recordings are for you, in those moments, sister in Christ. Here is the link.

Bible study devotional prayer journals

The first book, Near to God: A Devotional Bible Study of God’s Character in Our Suffering, is a short, yet powerful, Bible study to help us draw near to God as we suffer, re-discovering who He is, uniquely providing us an opportunity to journal in response to His character with intimate prayers and our favorite worship songs, into our suffering.

Near to God: A Devotional Bible Study of God's Character in Our Suffering

A second book resource, Singing the Gospel to Job: Finding Hope in Suffering published in 2022.

Have you ever cried out, “Am I a believer if I’m suffering?” or “How can a good and loving God let this happen?” Job did. So did I.

By bringing honest emotions to the Lord in guided prayer and song responses, this devotional Bible study offers hope, deepens faith, invites peace, and nurtures contentment in hard days of suffering.

The 15 short chapters, with verses for you to look up and respond to, point to Scriptural truths to replace the lies in our thoughts as we suffer. Each chapter ends with four prayer journal entries and hymn lyrics to read-sing as a prayer.

Singing the Gospel to Job

A third book was published in 2023, Praying God’s Promises Into Suffering. This 31-day devotional prayer journal began with messy written pages poured out in lament as I cried to the Lord in painful agony at 3 a.m. one wintry morning. God poured hundreds of Scriptures and unified themes of His Word’s promises to me as a follower of Jesus Christ. Songs that echo these promises flooded my heart and soul amid my suffering. He gave me strengthened endurance amid my chronic and serious illness. I sat in awestruck reverence, knowing I needed to share His encouragement with others. A book had been poured out.

This gospel-centered book prays Scripture back to God, with written journal prompts to respond to God’s promises. It offers comforting and sustaining grace in the darkest times of pain and loss, along with hymns of the Christian faith and thematic lists of Scriptures for further study. This book is for those who seek to patiently endure suffering with quieted peace, joy, and strengthened faith.

The mission of “Singing Christ’s Hope” is to glorify God by nurturing gospel-centered hope in Christ through song and Scripture, journeying heart-to-heart with suffering women. We offer free (or nearly free) resources for Christian women who are suffering.

We believe:

  • The entire Bible is the inspired, inerrant, infallible, authoritative Word of God;
  • There is one God, eternally existent and unchangeable in His glorious being, in three equal persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit;
  • Since Genesis 3, all humans have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, deserving death as a just punishment for sin, but God, in His love, sent Jesus Christ!
  • Jesus Christ is truly God and truly man, God the Son, in His virgin birth and sinless life. He was crucified, died, and was buried, as the substitutionary and atoning sacrifice of shed blood for sin with His righteousness credited to believers. He was physically resurrected and is now alive, ascended to reign at the right hand of God the Father, to personally return in power, glory, and judgment.
  • The Holy Spirit dwells within each believer, proceeding from and one with the Father and Son. He regenerates and progressively sanctifies believers.
  • Our salvation and eternal life, our gospel hope, is a gift from God by grace, through faith in Jesus Christ.
  • “Singing Christ’s Hope” is singing that Jesus Christ is Lord! This is our hope, no matter what we suffer on earth.

Your story and song, as we sing Christ’s hope into our suffering

Beloved sister in Christ, will you join us? Let’s interrupt our suffering by singing to God…together! Because it’s a hard trial, isn’t it? If suffering threatens to squelch your song today, we pray that “Singing Christ’s Hope” will help you persevere with faith, as we share Scriptures, songs, and personal prayers for you.

We treasure walking alongside you as we seek to glorify God and enjoy Him forever, singing Christ’s hope into our suffering.

This is my story, this is my song,

Praising my Savior all the day long!

“Blessed Assurance” by Fanny Crosby

I’ve been telling the story often lately. I think the greatest wonder is that we can trust our sovereign, loving Lord who is in control of all the suffering…His wait magnified His worthiness and His great Kingdom plan. So many of us are waiting for answer to prayer…I pray that what He did in my life will help us all trust Him in what He is doing now, as our good and loving Father. May He remind us always of our hope in Christ Jesus, our Lord and Savior.

Thank you for pointing me to your “story.” I am at a loss for words… your story is anazing. A testimony of God’s faithfulness. I can honestly say that my own suffering (both physical and emotional) has pushed me into seeking Him more than than my few “mountain top” experiences. I do NOT like suffering, but I do see the “sludge” in me (in my attitude, my heart…) is exposed through the fires of life so I can give those things to Him. Romans 8:28

Oh Mary, who amongst us likes suffering?! But yes, you share so many of the beautiful results that come from it as our faithful God carries us through the normal valleys of earthly sufferings. What a wonder that, for a believer in Jesus Christ, Romans 8:28 is true. Clinging there today as I cling to our beloved Savior. 🙏🏼❤️🙌🏼

What a thrill to join you again praising God amidst our suffering! There is no doubt that God places specific people in particular places at definite times for His glory and our sanctification. We’ve both come a long way since our days at Christ Pres PCA in Marietta. The ministry you have had and are able to continue to provide through suffering you experienced years ago is such a comfort to those of us still suffering. I will be sharing your insights with many who are suffering in various ways. Thanks be to God!

    Lauri Hogle · February 5, 2021 at 12:04 pm

Bobbie, we sure have come a long way, and through so very much. What a treasure that the Lord brought us together then…and back together now! Isn’t God just amazing, kind, compassionate, and gracious to us!? I am praying for you, and all who are here. I’m praying that the words and songs I share bless and encourage you as much as He’s helped me with them. Thanks and glory to be to God for His precious and beautiful gifts to us!

God bless you too, Janice! One of God’s greatest gifts to me was singing of our hope in Christ during the deep suffering. Singing His Word and truths of His Word. What an amazing God of love Who hears our cries and sustains us, helping us praise Him into the hard. Much love and prayer to you, dear sister!
