Lord Jesus,

When “what if” thoughts fill my mind, when agony over escalating evil weighs heavy, when hope-less fears arise, zoom me back to Your hope-saturated truth.

“What if”…tomorrow is actually the day of Your return?

The appointed, already-scheduled day…

What if…tomorrow is the day when this was planned by our Father:

And then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord Jesus will kill with the breath of his mouth and bring to nothing by the appearance of his coming (2 Thess. 2:8 ESV)!

How would Jesus’ possible return tomorrow change my suffering today?

(“Praise Him! Praise Him!,” Crosby, F., 1869)

Therefore you also must be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect (Mt. 24:44 ESV).

Re-turning to You, Lord Jesus

So Christ, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time, not to deal with sin but to save those who are eagerly waiting for him (Heb. 9:28 ESV).

What if tomorrow IS the day? Such hope for a Christian sufferer!

And when the chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the unfading crown of glory (1 Pet. 5:4 ESV).

Jesus’ second coming, with a possible “tomorrow is the day” hope? It gives me purpose for today, as I suffer

Jesus’ return is in my Father’s already-written glorious love story…for me

Return my thoughts to Your true “what if” when I’m discouraged or afraid. Because if tomorrow IS the day…

Therefore, preparing your minds for action, and being sober-minded, set your hope fully on the grace that will be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ (1 Pet. 1:13 ESV).

King of kings and Lord of lords, it is in Your glorious and gracious redeeming name of hope that we pray, amen.
