Singing Christ’s hope into suffering includes singing of heaven as He releases our grip on this world. Before the Lord graciously drew us to Himself in Christ, we had no hope and were without God in the world. But now in Christ Jesus, we have been brought near by the blood of Christ (Eph. 2:13 ESV)! What good news of gospel grace!

Sing of eternal life in the new heaven and earth!

As believers in Jesus Christ, He is preparing us for our true home; here, we’re traveling exiles (I Peter 2:11). We know the end of His kingdom story, the last scene of His triumphant movie. We know we will live abundantly and happily ever after in eternity!

I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand (John 10:28 ESV).

Let’s enter into a praise interruption, beloved in Christ! Let’s praise Him for “when we all get to heaven!” Let’s praise Him for our eternal home, the new heaven and new earth, His restoration of all things, our promised eternal hope in Christ Jesus!

When We All Get to Heaven

Our citizenship is in heaven, and from it we await a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, who will transform our lowly body to be like his glorious body, by the power that enables him even to subject all things to himself (Philippians 3:20 ESV).

Sing the wondrous love of Jesus, sing His mercy and His grace;

In the mansion bright and blessed, He’ll prepare for us a place.

When we all get to heaven, what a day of rejoicing that will be!

When we all see Jesus, we’ll sing and shout the victory.

When We All Get to Heaven, Hewitt, E.E. (1851-1920)

He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away (Rev. 21:4 ESV).

Eternal hope in Jesus Christ

We had a magical learning trip with our children one year. We visited Rome and entered the catacombs where the persecuted early Christians hid for their lives. They had filled the walls with drawings of Jesus’ resurrection and second coming. I wondered if they huddled in the dark and quietly sang the gospel too. By the gospel, His assured promise of our resurrection into eternal life with Him, they obviously clung to eternal hope in Jesus Christ as they suffered….the same hope we have today, in our suffering.

Let us then be true and faithful, trusting, serving ev’ry day;

Just one glimpse of Him in glory will the toils of life repay;

When we all get to heaven, what a day of rejoicing that will be!

When we all see Jesus, we’ll sing and shout the victory.

When We All Get to Heaven, Hewitt, E.E. (1851-1920)

Sing of heaven into our light and momentary affliction

For our light, momentary affliction (this slight distress of the passing hour) is ever more and more abundantly preparing and producing and achieving for us an everlasting weight of glory [beyond all measure, excessively surpassing all comparisons and all calculations, a vast and transcendent glory and blessedness never to cease!]
‭‭2 Corinthians‬ ‭4:17‬ ‭AMPC‬‬

While we walk the pilgrim pathway, clouds will overspread the sky;

But when trav’ling days are over, not a shadow, not a sigh.

When we all get to heaven, what a day of rejoicing that will be!

When we all see Jesus, we’ll sing and shout the victory.

When We All Get to Heaven, Hewitt, E.E. (1851-1920)

Look forward to seeing Jesus

And [how you] look forward to and await the coming of His Son from heaven, Whom He raised from the dead—Jesus, Who personally rescues and delivers us out of and from the wrath [bringing punishment] which is coming [upon the impenitent] and draws us to Himself [investing us with all the privileges and rewards of the new life in Christ, the Messiah] (I Thess. 1:10 AMPC).

Onward to the prize before us! Soon His beauty we’ll behold;

Soon the pearly gates will open; We shall tread the streets of gold.

When we all get to heaven, what a day of rejoicing that will be!

When we all see Jesus, we’ll sing and shout the victory.
