Are you weary today? Maybe you’re like me and chronic illness has brought fatigue and pain. Or are you weary of caring for your family in this ever-changing and despairing world? Weary of the fallen world? Tired of it all? Maybe you’re suffering with a sin-sick soul, weary of your own sinful responses.

Is your soul weary? Even languishing and sorrowful?

For I will satisfy the weary soul, and every languishing soul I will replenish (Jer. 31:25 ESV).

I’ve had moments of “weary soul” this week and the Lord graciously taught me with familiar Scriptures. How I need His “Word of God nourishment” to satiate my thirst and drench me with His replenishment. He promises to do this!

Sister in Christ, let’s come to Jesus together, singing our Father’s gospel-centered promises of love to our souls. For it’s in Jesus that Old Testament promises (like Jeremiah 31:25) are fulfilled. In Jesus, we can find filled-up satisfaction when our souls are weary.

Come to the cross of Jesus for forgiveness and find rest in Him again

Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest (Mt. 11:28 ESV).

“Come unto me, ye weary, and I will give you rest.”
O blessed voice of Jesus which comes to hearts oppressed!
It tells of benediction, of pardon, grace, and peace,
of joy that hath no ending, of love which cannot cease.

(“Come unto Me, Ye Weary,” Dix, W. C., 1867)

For I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more (Jer. 31:34 ESV).

As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Abide in my love (Jn. 15:9 ESV).

Ask God for satisfaction and gladness…in His love

“Come unto me, dear children, and I will give you light.”
O loving voice of Jesus which comes to cheer the night!
Our hearts were filled with sadness, and we had lost our way;
but morning brings us gladness, and songs the break of day.

But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved (Eph. 2:4-5 ESV).

I shall behold your face in righteousness; when I awake, I shall be satisfied with your likeness (Ps. 17:15).

Come to Jesus, who shows God’s unchanging love for us, now and forever

“And whosoever cometh I will not cast him out.”
O patient love of Jesus which drives away our doubt;
which calls us, very sinners, unworthy though we be of love so free and boundless, to come, dear Lord, to thee!

In this the love of God was made manifest among us, that God sent his only Son into the world, so that we might live through him. In this is love, not that we have loved God, but that he loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins (1 Jn. 4:9-10 ESV).

My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand (Jn. 10:27-28 ESV).

Ask the Holy Spirit to fill us up with His strength, to overflow His love to others

“Come unto me, ye fainting, and I will give you life.”
O peaceful voice of Jesus which comes to end our strife!
The foe is stern and eager, the fight is fierce and long;
but thou hast made us mighty, and stronger than the strong.

If anyone thirsts, let him come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, “Out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.” Now this he said about the Spirit (Jn. 7:38-39 ESV).

Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God (1 Jn. 4:7 ESV).

“My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me (2 Cor. 2:9 ESV).

Continually coming to Jesus

Jesus prays for you and me,

[O righteous Father], I made known to them your name, and I will continue to make it known, that the love with which you have loved me may be in them, and I in them (Jn. 17:26 ESV).

Fellow Christian sufferer, His love dwells with us…and in us. Today and forever.

As we walk through today’s weary and as He makes us aware of our need for forgiveness of sins, let’s repent and turn back to Him. Let’s continually ask Him to fill our hearts with the gospel truths of His grace and abiding, constant love. We can walk satisfied because the Lord’s love is ours today…and every day.

What strength and rest for our weary souls!

Let’s continually consider and come to Jesus and the cross where His love is shown to us. Let’s ask Him to give us His deepest replenishment of our soul-weary, so we might overflow His love to the other weary ones in our care. He promises, dear sister.

Consider him who endured from sinners such hostility against himself, so that you may not grow weary or fainthearted (Heb. 12:3 ESV).

Amen to everything mentioned in this post.
God is the only answer no matter what we’re going through.
It is also possible to have true joy in the midst of trials and adversity through the Holy Spirit.

    We are both living proof that it’s possible. By His gracious gift. I’m so thankful for His many gifts today, including you! It’s a privilege to pray for one another, Sandra!
