I come to You weary. Help me to sing today.

(“MY FAITH HAS FOUND A RESTING PLACE,” EDMUNDS, L. H., 1891)

“If God is for us, who can be against us?” (Rom. 8:31 ESV)

My God, please rest me as I suffer, for I know You are indeed “for me” as Your cherished daughter.

Rest me in knowing Your grace to me, in Christ

Rest me in seeing Your continual blessings, every day.

Rest me in knowing those blessings are not earned rewards. They’re Your gracious gifts!

Rest me in knowing Your ongoing grace is transforming me to be more like Jesus, my beloved Savior.

Rest me in asking for You to “do” while also resting in what You are doing…rather than fixating on outcomes and timing.

Rest me in knowing that what You’re doing is far better than the “blessings” I may want You to give, given my limited human understanding.

Rest me…in knowing!

Rest me into hope in Christ, like Job

Jesus, You were truly slain, for me. You are within me by Your Spirit, Lord. No matter how hard things seem to become, You are always “for me!” You’re shepherding me, all the way home to Yourself. This is my sure hope!

Loving God, my Savior, You permitted Satan to attack Job because Satan wanted to prove You were not enough for Job! Satan snickered, “Remove God’s obvious blessings and see what happens!”

It’s the same exhausting spiritual warfare for us as we suffer, too. You know this is so hard and wearying.

So, stir my battle cry of “outbursted” hope as You did with Job, for You are my living hope, Jesus! Lord, I know!

For I know that my Redeemer lives, and at the last he will stand upon the earth (Job 19:25 ESV).

Rest me in knowing You are helping me fight suffering’s temptations

Jesus, how I need Your interceding prayers because Satan continues to tempt us all to sin with pride and unbelief. As the enemy did with Job, he tempts us to try to demand or declare into existence what we want or even accuse You of wrongdoing in our lives.

And, as with Job, these are matters for repentance.

“In returning and rest you shall be saved; in quietness and in trust shall be your strength” (Is. 30:15 ESV).

For this reason I also suffer these things, but I am not ashamed; for I know whom I have believed and I am convinced that He is able to guard what I have entrusted to Him until that day (2 Tim. 1:12 LSB).

Rest me, rest me into peace in knowing, as I suffer. In Your name of rest, my precious Lord Jesus Christ, amen.

Help me to sing a song of praise to You, my Lord

Sister in Christ, when we’re hurting, scared, discouraged, or frustrated, let’s battle Satan’s wearying temptations to sin. With our indwelling Holy Spirit’s help, we can continue to re-turn to the cross of Jesus and God’s abundant grace to us, to worship and adore God for who He is, and trust His good purposes and “for us” plans, because we love Him and He loves us. He showed us, on the cross!

For me, singing in personal worship is essential. So, every week, I make playlists to help me sing Christ’s hope into my own suffering. It’s the fight of our lives, and our Lord is helping us battle!

This week, let’s sing, “Lord, I know!” with songs that echo Scriptural truths as He answers our plea to “rest me.” And you know what? He will honor our desire to have hearts that sing:

To the praise of His glorious grace and wondrous love!

If you’d like to sing to our Redeemer and battle along with me, sign up here, and it will come to your email with my prayers as a suffering sister who is right beside you.
