“There is no future hope. The doctors say so. Not for continued life on this earth, anyway.” https://laurihogle.com/about/
“There is no hope. The news anchors say so. There is no future hope.”
“Things will never be the same again. Everyone says so.”
“Everything is crashing and life plans seem totally ruined in this life storm.”
She tightly smiles as she wearily cares for her family with all of these swirling thoughts…she feels no hope. Depression is starting to creep in. She doesn’t see how she can go on.
I need future hope…today
“I know I need to find hope to make it through today.” She remembers that she truly used to have no hope, no promise, because she was living in the world without God. She was once separated, living apart from Christ (Eph. 2:12).
But that’s no longer true because she is His beloved child. She has hope in Christ (Romans 5).
Reset of trust: Jesus is our hope
Today, she needs a reset of trust in Jesus, her Hope. He gently reminds her:
- He is rich in mercy
- He gave her great love…even when she was dead in her trespasses
- He made her alive together with Christ
- He saved her, by grace
- He raised her up with him
- He seated her with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus (Eph 2:4-6).
She tells herself, “These verbs are past tense. It’s already been done. So, it’s already happening today, when all seems hopeless. I can expect eternal life one day, I can look for His glorious appearing with great hope (Tit. 2:13).
His rich mercy and great love are mine today.
His presence is mine.
He is with me. Right now.
His grace is mine.”
She sings to battle her feelings of hopelessness
My hope is built on nothing less than Jesus’ blood and righteousness;
I dare not trust the sweetest frame, but wholly lean on Jesus’ name.
On Christ the solid rock, I stand;
All other ground is sinking sand.
A sure and steadfast anchor of the soul
She whispers, “You are a sure and steadfast anchor of the soul…it cannot slip…it cannot break down under whoever steps out upon it… (Heb. 6:19a AMPC). You are holding me firmly in Your hand, Father. I know this is my future hope, my justified, clothed in Your righteousness, fully and forever cleansed hope, by Your amazing grace (Rom. 8:30).”
When darkness veils his lovely face,
I rest on his unchanging grace;
in every high and stormy gale,
my anchor holds within the veil.
Future hope holds you up for today’s endurance
She continues to pray, “I suppose this is really all I know for sure about the future, even if I wish for these problems to end right now. I know You are working through these trials as I continue to beg you to take them away and change things. Oh Father, give me a reset of trust in You today as You give me strength, wisdom, and patience to endure.”
My hope and expectation are from Him
My soul, wait only upon God and silently submit to Him; for my hope and expectation are from Him (Ps. 62:5 AMPC).
His oath, his covenant, his blood support me in the whelming flood;
when all around my soul gives way,
he then is all my hope and stay.
“Give me hope, Lord. You are my source of hope. I don’t need to muster it up in some fake way or try to create it myself. I am silent before You now as I ponder Your truth.”
SELAH (pause and consider)
Rejoice and exult in hope;
be steadfast and patient in suffering and tribulation;
be constant in prayer (Rom. 12:12 AMPC).
“Oh yes, I constantly need Your hope.” She brightens, “It is Your hope that can produce joy, rejoicing, and exultation in my hopeless feelings. I will keep coming back to You and praising You today.”
This suffering is so hard, but I will hope continually, and will praise You yet more and more (Ps. 71:14 AMPC).
When he shall come with trumpet sound,
O may I then in him be found;
Dressed in his righteousness alone,
Faultless to stand before the throne.
On Christ, the solid rock I stand,
all other ground is sinking sand, all other ground is sinking sand.
