Does it seem like the powers of this world are taking over? Is fear nagging under the surface of your thoughts?
We do not need to be afraid, believer.
Easter actually happened, right?! Jesus is alive and reigning as King right now, and He is fulfilling His kingdom purposes right now. No one else in the history of the entire universe’s existence was powerful enough to become a living, eating, talking, walking, and alive person after being dead three days. This, dear friend, is immeasurably great power.
Think about this too…we were DEAD in our own trespasses and sins (Eph. 2:1). We were dead, unable to see, hear, move, think, breathe. Spiritually, we were corpses ready for autopsy. It took God’s power to make us alive and save us. We no longer need to fear powers of this world because we are children of this powerful God of love, who has redeemed us and is keeping us in Christ, transforming us by the work of His Spirit. What rich mercy and amazing grace. We too will one day be resurrected by this same power.
But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved (Eph. 2:4-5 ESV).
But suffering quickly brings fear and it’s squeezing the whole world right now. Yes, we are suffering and it can be scary.
So, let’s battle together!
Through this week’s “praise interruption” of Scripture and song, let’s hail the power of Jesus’ name, His unchanging and powerful character. Let’s praise Him for the unseen realities of what’s actually happening in His wise kingdom reign. Let’s humble ourselves and exalt Him for who He is today.
Jesus, I humbly exalt You for who You are
Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name (Phil. 2:9 ESV)
Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever (Heb. 13:8 ESV).
Jesus, I praise You for Your power
All hail the pow’r of Jesus’ name!
Let angels prostrate fall;
bring forth the royal diadem,
and crown him Lord of all;
bring forth the royal diadem,
and crown him Lord of all.
(“All Hail the Power of Jesus’ Name,” St. 1-5, Perronet, E., 1779; St. 6 Rippon, J., 1787)
Lord of all, I praise You for saving me by Your grace
what is the immeasurable greatness of his power toward us who believe, according to the working of his great might that he worked in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly places (Eph. 1:19-20 ESV).
Ye seed of Israel’s chosen race,
ye ransomed of the fall,
hail him who saves you by his grace,
and crown him Lord of all;
hail him who saves you by his grace,
and crown him Lord of all.
Jesus, I praise You as reigning and sustaining Lord of all
Let ev’ry kindred, ev’ry tribe,
on this terrestrial ball,
to him all majesty ascribe,
and crown him Lord of all;
to him all majesty ascribe,
and crown him Lord of all.
far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and above every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the one to come (Eph 1:21 ESV).
O that with yonder sacred throng
we at his feet may fall;
we’ll join the everlasting song,
and crown him Lord of all;
we’ll join the everlasting song,
and crown him Lord of all.
Praising Jesus Christ as powerful King with a playlist
Beloved, the Lord has helped me battle fears that constantly creep into suffering by singing Scriptural truth in Psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs. From my work as a music therapist, educator, and researcher, I’ve learned that singing is a special and unique way to “take every thought captive to obey Christ” (2 Cor. 10:5) as we seek to honor our reigning Lord in our thoughts. It’s especially hard during suffering, but God’s given us so many truths of His Word to sing…and believe! God gives us the grace to trust Him with faith over fear, dear one.
I’m walking alongside you in that daily battle, so I professionally curate weekly playlists to accompany these writings, to help me and you sing truths of His Word. If it would encourage your faith this week to praise and honor Jesus as the powerful King, sign up here and it will come to your email! I’m praying our reigning and sustaining Lord uses it to help you internalize His Word. May His glorious name be praised forever and ever!
