Do you feel broken today? Wounded? How could my broken body, broken emotions, broken life be one that sings with joy right now? In this ultra-broken world?
As we walk wounded, perhaps the song is a quiet one that someone else needs to lead for us, like the flutist. And that Someone? Jesus says:
These things I have spoken to you, that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be full (Jn. 15:11 ESV).
I’ve been walking with chronic illness symptoms lately, daily seeking His joy in my broken body. As all of the Old Testament does, Isaiah 30 points us to Jesus, who can become joy and song in our broken. He’s answered my prayers, so I’m sharing with you, fellow sufferer.
God promises to heal the broken
Like God’s people in Isaiah, we’re born as sinners, ever since Genesis 3. We all need healing, from sin. We need healing from the broken places shattered by sin and its horrible effects.
Is. 30:26 promises:
the day when the LORD binds up the brokenness of his people and heals the wounds inflicted by his blow.
In the Hebrew for “binds up,” that day is when the Lord comforts the distress and wounding of sin. He binds up brokenness from sin. In the Hebrew for “heals,” that day is His day of forgiveness and restoration of His children. That day repairs the fractured crushing of His people under sin.
God promises Himself as healing of the broken
Beloved in Christ, that promise happened for us. Our healing from sin is found at the cross. That day, Jesus died the death we deserve for our sin, rising in victory. It was the day He forever healed broken sinners like you and me. The Lord promises continual forgiveness to us.
God promises Himself as healing from sin and all of its brokenness, in His great love and mercy. Wow.
The song of joy begins!
Standing on the promises of Christ, the Lord,
Bound to Him eternally by love’s strong cord…
God promises to provide for our needs
The Lord also promises to abundantly provide in our time of need (Is. 30:23-26). We can rest in His Word’s promises because, as believers in Christ, God is not only the sovereign and powerful Lord of all but also our loving Father who knows exactly what we need, way better than we do.
Overcoming daily with the Spirit’s Sword,
Standing on the promises of God.
Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God (Phil. 4:6 ESV).
My God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus (Phil. 4:19 ESV).
Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand (Is. 41:10 ESV).
God’s song of joy in the gospel of Jesus Christ, His promise
In my broken days, Isaiah 30 points me to the ultimate last day, when God will remove sin and restore all things to perfection and eternal joy.
Oh, how we long for that day in our broken world now, don’t we?
So, in our deepest needs today, let’s come back to our Savior…who was broken for us.
Maybe let’s all encourage one another to come to the cross, to re-find a song of joy in this hard time. He gives us joy as we remember what God has done for us in Christ. His words become our full joy now, as we wait for that day.
Have you read this familiar Scripture lately? Let’s slowly sink into it!! May it bring a song of contagious joy to you!!
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God (Jn. 3:16-18 ESV).
Standing on the promises, I now can see
Perfect, present cleansing in the blood for me;
Standing in the liberty where Christ makes free,
Standing on the promises of God.
The crescendo of God’s song of joy, promises fulfilled!
Do you hear the crescendo of His song in our broken? As we climb closer to being in His presence forever, do you hear the fortissimo of His gospel-centered promises for our whole journey with Him now?
Through him we have also obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in hope of the glory of God (Rom. 5:2 ESV).
And I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and in the sea, and all that is in them, saying, “To him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb be blessing and honor and glory and might forever and ever!” (Rev. 5:13 ESV)
Standing on the promises of Christ, my King!
Thro’ eternal ages let His praises ring;
“Glory in the highest!” I will shout and sing,
Standing on the promises of God.
Isaiah 30 offers another beautiful promise to us on this journey, through our broken days, into the day when He restores everything. I don’t know what He’ll do with each of our specific broken places today, but I know we can continually return, rest, and trust in His promised and perfect help to us…because we are His believing children.
And that? That can be our quiet song of joy today.
Prayer-songs when I’m broken
This week’s playlist offers songs of joy and rest, found in the gospel of Jesus Christ. The songs remind us of our hope and His presence with us in today’s brokenness. They sing His promises to our hearts as we sing to Him.
And maybe they will become songs of joy when we sing them into our broken!
If this would bless you, sign up and here and it will be my gift in your email, dear sister in Christ.

Oh, how I needed this.
My faith and joy are both extremely strong.
Each time I think I cannot continue in my broken body, Jesus catches me as he hugs me in reassurance that He is by my side.
Thank you for reminding each and every one of us, that we are not alone if we have asked the Lord to be our Savior and our names are in the Book of Life.

Sandra, we share in that journey and I thank God for His continual grace to us! From start to finish, we seek to glorify Him, in the broken. Let’s keep encouraging one another, sister in Christ! I thank God for you!
