Lord Jesus, Precious Savior,

The pain is strong today. So much of our suffering is invisible to others. As we suffer, what do You gently call to us into the wounding?

“Come to me, all who are weary and heavy-laden and I will give you rest” (Mt. 11:28 ESV).

(“What a Friend We Have in Jesus,” Scriven, J. M., 1855)

What a Friend we have in Jesus when we think we’re alone and unloved

You are my hiding place and my shield; I hope in your word (Ps. 119:14 ESV).

What a Friend we have in Jesus, with Your indwelling Spirit

Others may not understand our suffering, but You do, Comforter and Helper.

You know our hearts, thoughts, emotions, griefs, and losses. Illuminating Your Word to our hearts.

Stir us to tell You every little thing and to then listen to Your voice speaking back to us in Your Word. For You alone know what we need most.

But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you (Jn. 14:26 ESV).

Jesus, our perfect Friend and strong Deliverer, keep us from sinning in the temptation suffering brings

 Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words. 27 And he who searches hearts knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because[a] the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God. Romans 8:26-27;

What a Friend we have in Jesus to give us peace, courage, and hope through His Word as we suffer!

Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth (Col. 3:2 ESV).

Thank You for the beautiful dialogue You delight to give us as we suffer. To You be all the glory, faithful Friend, our Lord Jesus Christ, amen.

A playlist gift to sing these Scriptures to our hurting hearts as we worship our Lord Jesus Christ

Sister in Christ, my heart can barely speak as I write this. My prayer is utterly one of, “Help me, Jesus.” And our Helper and Comforter has helped me, by sharing His living and active Word with you!

I need to sing Scripture into my pain, so I’ve made a playlist of some of these Scriptures and other songs that echo our faithful Friend’s always-true Word. If you’d like weekly playlist gifts as you suffer too, sign up here, and they will come to your email with love from a sister who understands how hard this is.
