As this New Year begins, are you begging God for rescue from a new-hard season? If you’re like me, as I pray for rescue, I also must look back, rehearsing His past rescue when my circumstances overwhelm.

I first need to remember that He’s already rescued and delivered us!

He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son (Col. 1:13 ESV).

So, in this season of suffering, He’s still rescuing us as we live amidst this world’s darkness and inevitable trials. In ways we can’t understand as finite humans, we’re already transferred to the kingdom of Jesus Christ. Our rescue begins and ends with our secure identity in Christ. Our Redeemer is our King, right now! Hallelujah!

We are in God’s rescue of a new-hard season…together

Then, in looking back to your past hard seasons, do you see how He’s rescued you by growing you within them? God’s Word is filled with examples of this in His people!

I’ve been looking back lately. I pray my story of God’s latest rescue encourages you deeply today as you walk through your own suffering.

As an outcome of the pandemic, He recently rescued me from my season of full-time teaching that would have later proven to be horrific for my health. God knew.

If you’ve been with me in this last year, did you notice that “Singing Christ’s Hope Into Your Suffering” started to take a turn as I naturally began to use the word “our”?

The nature of chronic illness means that embers can rekindle into flames. About eight months ago, my gifts to you simultaneously became God’s merciful and compassionate healing tools for me, as fire burned hot. The writings and playlists became His rescue, in moments when I too needed to remember our hope in Christ.

God’s rescue of His transforming work

But oh, what He has done! Now I’m looking way back…and rejoicing. Things are so completely different in my current new-hard season, thirty years from when my illnesses began!

All praise and glory to our great God!

I can look back to my past hopelessness, honest questions, and desperate fears and now discover He’s done so much transforming work in my heart in years since! These verses hold true in this new-hard season of suffering, by His incredible gift of grace:

You were wearied with the length of your way, but you did not say, “It is hopeless”; you found new life for your strength, and so you were not faint (Is. 57:10 ESV).

So we do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day (2 Cor. 4:16 ESV).

The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness (Lam. 3:22-23 ESV).

Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert (Is. 43:19 ESV).

God’s Rescue of New Mercies Every Morning

Dear sister in Christ, in our new-hard seasons, our faithful God is always at work with daily, sufficient, rescuing grace. His fresh mercies and compassion are ours, every single morning He awakens us. We often don’t see it at the time, but He’s rescuing us from anything contrary to His wisely designed, always-good, and steadfastly loving purpose for our lives.

Why?

Because He is our loving Father, as those who are in Christ. By His Spirit, He’s taking us on an adventure in union with Jesus! It’s a transforming one as He makes us more and more into the image of our dear Savior (2 Cor. 3:18; Eph. 4:22-24; 1 Thess. 5:23-24). This is our reality and hope when life’s “hard” feels unbearable.

Think of it – each difficult day that passes is another day He’s brought us closer to fulfillment of His promise!

According to his promise we are waiting for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells (2 Pet. 3:13 ESV).

Song of a new-hard season

For me, it is not a “bleak midwinter,” as the fading Christmas song goes. Yes, it’s a new-hard season and it can sometimes look bleak, BUT it’s filled with His continual rescue and grace.

As I pray for His healing help, I’ve felt emotional moments of scary and sad, of pain and weakness. At times, I’ve been dependent on His grace to keep going.

BUT it’s also a beautiful season of a new praise song to Him. He puts it there in response to His Word. It’s a newly humbled and hope-filled song offered to our loving Father, trusting His rescuing work within trials.

He put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God (Ps. 40:3 ESV).

What can I give Him, poor as I am?
If I were a shepherd, I would bring a lamb;
if I were a wise man, I would do my part;
yet what I can I give Him: give my heart.

(“In the Bleak Midwinter,” Rossetti, C. G., c. 1872)

Singing to the Lord in a new-hard season

Beloved in Christ, what might be His rescue in your new-hard season of suffering? Is He growing your heart in new ways too? Are you bringing your heart to Him in new ways, because circumstances are hard?

I’d love to hear your story of His rescuing work as you walk through your trial right now! Write me and let’s pray for each other.

I pray that anything I share will be His edifying gifts to you…because He’s also strengthening me through creating them. We’re walking one another home in our Lord’s care, together.

If you aren’t yet receiving the music in your email, I would love to share my weekly playlist gifts with you (sign up below).

For me and many other sisters who’ve written me, singing Scriptural truth to Him and to our hearts has been His rescuing help in these hard days. More and more, I’ll be sharing of the power and importance of singing to the Lord as we walk through suffering.

So, with this week’s personal worship playlist, we bring Him our fears and weary as we sing-pray. We offer Him our praise as our wise, loving, compassionate, faithful, sovereign, and good God. I’m praying that this week’s playlist will encourage our fresh trust in the rescuing work of our Lord in any new-hard circumstances of 2022. God bless you, my suffering sister in Christ.
