Crisis threatened once again. Frightened, she prayed, “I am so scared. Lord, show me how to pray. I need You. I need Your guidance and wisdom. I need Your rescue. Please help me. Comfort me.”

I am God, and there is none like me, declaring the end from the beginning and from ancient times things not yet done, saying, “My counsel shall stand, and I will accomplish all my purpose” (Is. 46:9b-10 ESV).

Be still, my soul:

Your God will undertake to guide the future as he has the past.

Your hope, your confidence let nothing shake;

All now mysterious shall be bright at last.

Be Still, My Soul, von Schlegel, K., 1752

Be still and receive comfort

Her thoughts quieted, comforted by His Word and the hymn. She returned to the reigning King, re-discovering that today’s good purposes and tomorrow’s grace are held in the hands of the Most High. He lifted her into a praise interruption

It is good to give thanks to the Lord,
to sing praises to your name,

O Most High;
to declare your steadfast love in the morning, and your faithfulness by night.

How great are your works, O Lord!
Your thoughts are very deep

(Ps. 92:1-2, 5 ESV)!

Be still, my soul, The Lord is on thy side.
Bear patiently, the cross of grief or pain.
Leave to thy God, to order and provide.
In every change, He faithful will remain.
Be still, my soul, thy best thy heavenly friend,
Through thorny ways, leads to a joyful end.

Be Still, My Soul, von Schlegel, K., 1752

Be still by singing praises to the Lord

Be still my soul

She humbly rested into a settled prayer of soul-stillness, praying, “Reigning, powerful Lord, You control all. Moments that seem all-wrong are part of Your all-loving plan for me. For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever! The enemy is subject to Your perfect kingdom purposes. You are KING. In Jesus’ matchless name, amen.”

She quietly sang to glorify Him and declare His character and promise to her heart.

Rejoice, the Lord is King!

Jesus, the Savior reigns, the God of truth and love…

His kingdom cannot fail, he rules o’er earth and heav’n…

He sits at God’s right hand till all his foes submit…

Rejoice, the Lord is King, Wesley, C., 1746

His strength

She arose. He had provided strength and comfort in trusting the immeasurable greatness of his power toward us who believe, according to the working of his great might that he worked in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly places, far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and above every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the one to come (Eph. 1:19-21 ESV).

Be still, my soul: the hour is hast’ning on

when we shall be forever with the Lord,

when disappointment, grief, and fear are gone,

sorrow forgot, love’s purest joys restored.

Be still, my soul: when change and tears are past,

all safe and blessed we shall meet at last.

Be Still, My Soul, von Schlegel, K., 1752

The Lord is sovereign over all

Looking beyond this crisis to the day when He will restore all things, she trusted in His sovereign control, His working of his great might, His counsel and purpose for today’s crisis. Her soul calmed in knowing that the reigning King of Kings and Lord of Lords was accomplishing His perfectly redemptive work through today’s challenge. She relaxed knowing that, through the work of Christ, she too would be completed in Him, the One who has dominion over all rule, all authority (Col. 2:10 VOICE) and, by His glorious authority, He was allowing this crisis in His personally perfect plan for her completion (Rom. 8:28-30). It would be OK in the hand of her Savior, Immanuel, King Jesus.

Be still my soul and praise!

Handel floated into her heart: Hallelujah! And He shall reign forever and ever! (Messiah, Handel, G. F., 1741).

She rested and walked in today’s manna of a praise interruption.

Thanks so much for the prayer in my inbox and for the beautiful playlist. I so enjoyed Selah’s version of Be Still. 🙂

How I praise God for any encouragement He provides in the songs or “praise interruption” writing I am sharing. What a treasure of encouragement we have in His Word and songs that sing Scriptural truth…like that song! Much love to you, sister in Christ.
